Top 10 things to do in San Francisco!

San Francisco has many labels, from the most beautiful city to being described as the most European city of America, but everyone agrees on one thing: San Francisco is unique.

The reasons for all this attention ranges from its blend of tradition and modernity, from the skyscrapers in the background to the Victorian homes, as well as its unusual morphology (built on over 20 hills).

1. A ride on the Cable car. It’s the icon of the city and even deserves a museum (Cable Car Museum). The Tram of San Francisco is one of the most popular attractions. The citizens are jumping on the fly to ride the steep climbs and descents of the city. These cars come from all over the world.

2. Golden Gate Bridge.  This alone is worth a flight across the Atlantic. Started in January 1933, at the time it represented the largest suspension bridge in the world. Its towers exceed 200 m in height and it is 2.5 km long. To cross it is a must by car, bike, on foot or by tour!

3. Alcatraz Island. It is located opposite to the area north of the city. The island became famous as the most secure federal penitentiary in the U.S. but is now a tourist destination. You can get there by ferry and take a tour inside the structure, which housed gangsters like Al Capone, amongst others.

4. Mission District. This area is not always mentioned in tourist guides. It is a unique district, made up of local restaurants and bars. This represents the other side of the Californian metropolis, not to be missed for those who love great variety.

5. Fisherman's Wharf. It is the most touristic area of ​​the city and therefore one of the most popular. Perfect for those looking for souvenirs, seafood restaurants, but also to visit other attractions such as the Aquarium of the Bay, Ghirardelli Square, Pier 39 and Embarcadero. The latter hosts a Farmer's Market every Saturday for local products.

6. Union Square. It is the heart of the financial district and is located in the center of the city-downtown. It’s an ideal base for exploring the city of San Francisco and for shopping lovers, with stores such as Macy's and many other stores like Armani, Dior and Levi’s to check out (which in San Francisco has its historical headquarters).

7. Sonoma and Napa Valley. Are you passionate about nature and wine? This is the place to go. Just outside the town, you can take a trip in the valleys and vineyards where the famous Californian wine is produced. All manufacturers will offer you a wine tour in these beautiful green hills. In summary, it’s paradise near the city.

8. Coit Tower. This places gives you a breathtaking view of the entire Bay - the tower in the heart of North Beach, one of the most elegant areas of San Francisco. From here you can visit Little Italy, Chinatown and Japan town and head to Lombard Street, the most crooked street in the world.

9. Haight-Ashbury. The roots of the hippy movement can be seen in this district. Even today you can see rainbow-colored walls, vintage shops and nice bars (not to mention improbable hippies who seem to have remained at that time). The Golden Gate Park, one of the largest and finest in the U.S., is right near here.

10. Museums. Finally, art lovers can’t miss the Museums of San Francisco such as the MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) and the Asian Art Museum, considered the largest outside of Asia.So you’ve got the information, you know what’s out there; you just have to go there in person.
