Life@Kaplan: Using English in my career after studying at Kaplan

Cristian Andres from Venezuela has been studying at Kaplan Dublin for the past 5 months. Find out how he went on to teach English to his friends.

What was your motivation for studying English abroad?

I have always wanted to learn English abroad, and Dublin was the perfect destination.

Tell us what you’ve achieved since finishing the course?

Since finishing the course with Kaplan I began to apply for jobs. Thankfully I was successful, and frequently have to use English in my job. I would also like to mention the fact that I now feel much more confident speaking in English, especially in a professional environment, which is also an achievement.

Have you kept in contact with anyone you met during your studies? If so, who?

I don’t really consider myself a sociable guy, but I met so many wonderful people at Kaplan. I’ve kept in contact with my friend Nibrass from Oman, Andrea from Italy, Maria Lopez from Venezuela, Professor Adam Kerry from England and of course my lovely host family.

Have you used your English skills to travel?

I went to Trinidad and Tobago at the beginning of this year with a group of friends, and I was the only one who knew how to speak English. I was their translator during the whole trip, which was rewarding to be the only one that could communicate with the native people. I felt like a fish in water.

What do you do now? Do you use your English regularly?

Yes I do. Actually I’m teaching English on Saturdays. I mean, I’m not working for a language school, I do it myself at home with some friends, and as Lana says ‘it’s for freeeeeee.’
