Intensive English course in the UK: Gianluigi's story

Why study Intensive English in England? There are plenty of reasons, from getting to know a new culture, to practicing your English every day, and even to experience living in a city like Manchester, where the economy is growing and opportunities are always coming up.

Gianluigi, a 28 year old from Italy, shares his reason for studying English in Manchester for 6 weeks.

What were you doing before choosing to study at Kaplan?

I got a degree in business economics and I used to work in my country, Italy, but without English language skills, it is too difficult. Therefore, I left my work and I decided to improve my English.

How has your English improved since studying at Kaplan?

When I came in Manchester, I was not able to speak or understand what someone said. I started as a lower intermediate student. After five weeks and passing my exam, I have gone up to intermediate level. Now, my grammar, my writing, my speaking and my listening have improved and keep improving, so I manage to communicate with everyone.

What do you love the most about Manchester?

Manchester is amazing and cheap. It is very easy to get around the city center. My lessons are in the afternoon, so, in the morning, I usually look around the city for museums (that are free), go to the library to study, and walk through the parks and leisure spaces. At night, I have been enjoying my time because there are lots of nightclubs, pubs and restaurants. The city always has something happening. It is impossible to be bored.

What do you like about the school?

The school is in the city center, by Piccadilly Garden, where there are all the bus stops. It is very easy to reach. In my opinion, Kaplan is efficiently organized and suited to teaching English. Every day I can go to the school before my lesson time to meet new people in the social room, get information about the social program or practice my English with the study group or in the study center.

Furthermore, every week Kaplan arranges a social program for our free time, so everybody can see the country, tour the city, play in football matches, watch movies and take part in other interesting activities. I can choose what I prefer doing.

What do you like the most about your teachers?

My teachers explain everything in an easy and clear way. They are friendly and helpful, so I can ask them to explain anything again if I have any doubts.

What has been your best experience at Kaplan so far?

I cannot find just one best experience at Kaplan. I think that Kaplan is the best experience in my life. I have met lots of people with
different cultures from all of the world, I am always improving my English, it is fantastic.

Would you recommend Kaplan to your friends back home?

I am going to recommend Kaplan to my friends because it is organized in the best way to learn English, without any risk of being boring. Furthermore, the school is quick to help with any problem that someone has, whether it's about your lesson timetable, accommodation, anything.

How do you think studying English with Kaplan will help your future?

Studying English in Kaplan will help me to communicate in many countries in the world. I will able to look for a better job, maybe  even in another country.

What do you plan to do after you finish studying?

I am going to go back to my country for a while, and then I plan to organize getting work experience in Manchester and coming back.

Do you think your Intensive English course in Manchester has helped you with your future goals?

I think that it has helped me with my future goals because I have been studying international marketing and it is impossible to succeed without the English language. Now I have the tools to start working in the field that I prefer, so when I will apply for a job, send my CV and my covering letter, and I will show off my language skills.
