How to Make Your Visa Process Easier

Getting a visa can be a scary process! There are lots of forms to fill out, interviews to attend and with the possibility of having to speak a language you don't know very well, it can be overwhelming.

However, there are some ways to make your visa process go more smoothly, and improve your chances of being granted your visa.

Here are our top 10 tips for making your visa process easier. 

1. Check the spelling of your name on your application and passport. This is an easy one, but having the wrong spelling could really slow down your visa process, and it's a simple thing to check.

2. Ensure that you are applying for the right visa for your intended stay. If you are looking to do any work, most countries require a different visa than for studying only.

3. Apply for your visa with enough time before you plan to travel or study abroad. The stress of having to rush a visa process leads to mistakes and nervousness, and you don't want your visa rejected because of it!

4. Visit the embassy's website to ensure you have everything you need, and that the process hasn't changed. The websites usually have the most updated information available, and finding out direct from the source means you aren't misled.

5. Re-check your application twice, and if possible, have someone else read it over as well. Any error or a missed field could cost you valuable time!

6. Bring all your documentation to a visa interview. It's always better to have too much information than not enough. Bring proof of enrollment to a course, your passport, any degrees, certification letters, transcripts and proof of work experience.

7. Bring the required proof that you're planning on returning home after your course or vacation ends. You will probably be asked to prove that you intend to return to your home country, and not having the required proof will probably mean a rejected application.

8. Be able to prove that you have enough money for your trip. You will need to prove that you or your sponsor can afford to go on the trip and that you can afford to pay your own expenses.

9. Dress and act professionally during your interview. Don't argue with your interviewer, and be polite and friendly. Presenting yourself well means you'll make a better impression, and you'll be taken more seriously.

10. Ensure that your passport does not expire for at least 6 months from your visa application. Having a valid passport for the duration of your stay is essential!
