British Museum Tops London’s Best Museum Poll

The British Museum is London’s most popular museum, according to a survey of Kaplan International students.

Research by Kaplan International English, a leading provider of English language courses, revealed that the museum, based in Great Russell Street, is London’s favourite ahead of the likes of the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum.

Kaplan surveyed 535 students from its language schools in Covent Garden and Leicester Square to discover what they love about London.

London’s top five museums and galleries:

  • The British Museum (26%)
  • The National Gallery (18%)
  • Natural History Museum (13%)
  • Tate Modern (13%)
  • Science Museum (8%)

The British Museum said: “The British Museum is delighted that so many international students make visits and identify it as their favorite museum in London. With a collection reflecting the whole world, there is truly something for students of all nationalities, whether they want to see objects from their own part of the world or to explore cultures that they are less familiar with.”

Last year, the British Museum received a record 6.7 million visitors, an increase of 20% from 2012. Some of the most popular exhibitions included "Life and Death in Pompeii and Herculaneum" and "Ice Age Art".
