Welcome back to our in-depth exploration of the best summer destinations the US has to offer. This week, we’ll be taking a closer look at one of the most iconic and influential cities in the world, New York City.

Whether you’re drawn there because of its stunning architecture, want to capture some of its renowned culture, or just really dig the city’s trendy vibe, there are a thousand reasons to visit New York City. But what if you could take that visit even further?

Studying English in the United States can open so many doors in both your professional and personal lives, and there’s no better time to live and learn in New York than the summer!

Why is New York a perfect summer destination?

Known for its multiculturalism, skyscrapers, and beautiful public spaces, New York is a travel destination that never disappoints. From Central Park to Wall Street, and Williamsburg to the Upper East Side, New York is packed with fun things you can do to enjoy the wonderful summer weather.

Spend an evening visiting the open art galleries in the iconic Chelsea neighborhood, go for run in the architecturally acclaimed High Line, or enjoy an afternoon with friends at one the many famous rooftop bars the city offers (Roof at Park South, Jimmy, and Mr. Purple are great options in Manhattan).

How to spend a day like a local?

If you are looking to spend your day like a true New Yorker, you can start by going for a stroll in Central Park, or reading a book under a tree in Washington Square Park. Later, you can head to one the museums in Museum Mile. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, otherwise known as the Met, and the Guggenheim are rated as some of the best art museums in the world (and the weird and wacky vibe of the Guggenheim definitely shouldn’t be missed).

A meal you can’t miss

Home to people from around the world, New York City is a true mecca for foodies. If you want to try a dish that screams, “New York City,” look no further than NYC cheesecake. Many joints in the city serve it, but if you are looking for the creamiest, smoothest, most famous cheesecake, go straight to the Katz Delicatessen in the Lower East Side.

Of course, if you’re in New York, you have to try a slice of the world-famous New York pizza. Some highly rated pizza joints include Di Fara in Midwood, which has been around since the 1960s, and Grimaldi’s Pizzeria in Brooklyn.
